Feeding Pilgrims, Nourishing Souls

HISTORY OF KUMBH MELA

The Kumbh Mela originates from the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the ocean of milk by the devas and asuras to obtain amrita, the nectar of immortality. Indra, cursed by Durvasa Muni, lost his kingdom’s wealth to the asuras. Lord Vishnu advised the devas to cooperate with the asuras to retrieve the nectar using Mount Mandara and Vasuki, the serpent.
Lord Vishnu, in His Kurma Avatara (tortoise form), supported the mountain during the churning. Many amazing things emerged, including the nectar. Lord Vishnu, as Mohini Murti, gave it to the devas.
In the battle that followed, drops of nectar fell at Nashik, Ujjain, Haridwar, and Prayagraj. These places became sacred, and the Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years at these sites. Millions of pilgrims gather to bathe in the holy rivers, seeking purification and spiritual blessings.

It is an unforgettable experience for many pilgrims. Hundreds of millions of pilgrims bathe at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati. As they immerse themselves in the holy waters to cleanse their souls, you can help nourish their bodies.
